Braeside ‘To-Die-For’ French Toast
¼ cup butter (marg)
½ cup packed brown sugar
1 tbsp corn syrup
1 large apple, peeled and sliced
½ loaf French bread, sliced
2 whole eggs
¾ to 1 cup milk
½ tsp vanilla extract
The night before:
Melt the butter in a small saucepan over med-low heat.
Stir in the brown sugar and syrup and stir until blended.
Spread this mixture into the bottom of a pie plate, the size depending on how many people are served.
Spread apple slices over the sugar mixture
Arrange French bread slices over apple… you will need to cut small wedges to fill in holes.
In a medium bowl, beat eggs until light and beat in milk and vanilla.
Pour egg mixture evenly over bread.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
In the morning, unwrap the dish, and then cook in a 350 F oven for 40 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
Serve with spicy apple syrup.
